If you look closely within the nest you will see that the two eggs have hatched into two baby hummingbirds. I believe they hatched yesterday or even the day before because that is when we first noticed that the mama was standing at the nest instead of sitting on it but it wasn't until today that we really noticed what was going on within the nest. Actually Carl noticed when he saw a crow hanging around the nest and he shooed it away. It made us wonder what he was doing around the nest so Carl peeked into it and said he thought he saw two birds. I didn't fully believe him, it seemed too soon, and i was a bit afraid that the crow had somehow hurt the eggs so i was hesitant to look but i finally got the nerve and grabbed the camera in order to get a better look and this is the shot i got. Since the birds make no noise we still wondered if perhaps they were dead but after many anxious minutes of waiting for the mom we saw that they were and she was feeding them.
that was just part of our day. It was hot this whole weekend but because we hate being cooped up we went out for a hike this morning in this Mission Gorge park. The hike was about 4 miles roundtrip but we saw an old dam. the hike was nice overall but it was so hot out there even at 10 a.m. and when we got back to the car we found that we had a flat tire. So we had to deal with that and it took up the rest of our morning (waiting in line for 40 minutes at Sears didn't help).
so that was my day. A busy Sunday full of surprises.
by the way the soup the other day came out really good and close to the original.
